First Year Writing

The mission of the First Year Writing Program at Emory is to help students reflectively participate in scholarly, civic, professional, and personal discourses via multiple genres, modes, and media in ways that facilitate the transfer of writing knowledge and practice beyond the first year.

The First Year Writing Program offers courses through the Department of English and the Department of Comparative Literature that fulfill Emory’s First Year Writing Requirement (FWRT).

Resources such as the Emory Writing Center, ESL Tutoring, academic advising, and counseling services can help students succeed in first year writing courses and beyond. We strongly encourage students to conference with their teachers during office hours in order to receive personalized instruction, clarification, and support.
